Issue
When a dirty car drives into a car wash, it does not automatically come out clean. A clean vehicle leaves the car wash only if the processes are properly adjusted. What happens in between is, after all, a complex interaction of highly diverse chemical and mechanical factors that need to be finely tuned to each other. If there are problems balancing these, Caramba delivers solutions. Our approach is to take an overall view of all components involved in the process chain. In doing so, we do not polish the wash and operating results in the short-term but, first and foremost, we achieve brilliant long-term performance for car wash operators.
Challenge
Optimal vehicle care not only has its worth, but also its price. To make price and value affordable, car washes need to work with high a efficiency and effectiveness. Water and cleaning chemistry, in particular, are items that offer a high potential for savings. As with large car wash operators for whom the dirt devil is in the detail: to start with, the supposedly efficient water and detergent consumption resulted in undesirable system deposits. Caramba came up with corrective measures.
Analysis
During the evaluation of the plant, the Caramba technicians encountered contamination on and in mechanical components as well as the car wash textiles. Furthermore, it was determined that there was a need for optimisation in the fine-tuning of the technical units. The deposits on the system parts indicated precipitates containing iron and manganese from the wash solvent, which presumably came from the well water added. An analysis was carried out accordingly.
Best advice
Caramba recommended readjusting all foamers and other system dosing units. The consumption levels of the fresh water were optimised by subsequently installing technical solutions and adjusted to the optimal needs of the water treatment plant. The wetting of the washing material by process water was optimised by modifying the arrangement of the spray nozzles. By switching to products of the Caramba X-Line, the turbidity of the process water was reduced by 84% and the demand for chemical oxygen was reduced by 58%.
Caramba effect
After carrying out all test series, the new adapted products of the Caramba X-Line achieved the best wash and drying results. The water consumption could also be reduced by 28% from 130 litres per vehicle to 92 litres. Analysis of the water values at the site resulted in a projected reduction in the costs of fresh water of more than Euro 12,000 per year. With the Caramba X-line, the car wash operator opted for the premium solution and underlined their claim to being a high-quality car wash provider.
