The challenge

The trend towards sustainability will continue to establish itself in the field of car care and chemical products, making markets in countries outside Europe more open in this segment. A customer has, therefore, approached Caramba to have us develop a new more environmentally friendly car care line for him with high quality, effective and sustainable products to be certified by the EU Ecolabel and other external institutes.

Our approach

After the formation of a project team with participants from all the departments of our company, the tasks were distributed as follows:

  • Research & Development: Development of the ecological formulations according to the catalogue of requirements of the EU Ecolabel
  • Purchasing in cooperation with Research & Development: Determination of the individual containers, adapted to the products and their field of application
  • Product Management/Quality Management: Creation of the application and labelling texts in cooperation with our customer, as well as the product registration for the markets
  • Production: Production planning and container filling tests, as well as filling of the first series
  • Logistics: Carrying out transport tests of the displays

In regular meetings with all the project teams, the current status was reviewed and all the participants were involved in the decision-making process. In addition, our customer was continuously informed about the progress of the project. In close coordination with all the parties involved – both internally and externally (our customer and certification bodies) – we found solutions for the successful realisation of the project. For the positioning of the products in displays, we carried out transport tests in advance to ensure proper presentation in the market. The certification of the ecological products was carried out in cooperation with the responsible certification body as well as the research and development, product management and sales departments.

The result

By working closely with our customer, we succeeded in delivering a complete range of sustainable, effective and high-quality products within just eight months – from development to market launch. All products were certified by external institutes. In particular, EU Ecolabel certification guaranteed the ecological quality of the products throughout their lifecycle. The launch of the new range with our customer’s branding not only generated additional sales but also strengthened customer loyalty and identification with the brand. The product positioning under a globally known brand gave consumers the assurance that the products met the brand owner’s usual quality standards. Surveys of the market by the customer resulted in consistently positive feedback regarding the products offered, packaging and presentation of the goods in the display.

The challenge

A major automotive customer was about to launch a new range of care products for vehicles worldwide, the visual appearance of which was to be clearly distinguishable from the competition. The design of the packaging made the precise, predefined positioning of the wrap-around labels a key challenge, as this could not be guaranteed with the existing production and labelling machines at the time – especially as, among other things, it had to be ensured that the horizontal position could be freely determined, because packages of different sizes had to be accurately labelled. In order to harmonise the interaction of packaging, closure and label with the customer’s design requirements, state-of-the-art technical production solutions were, therefore, needed.

Our approach

Together with the manufacturers of the plastic packaging and a specialist machine builder, the task was to develop and technically implement such a solution. For this purpose, the customer’s requirements were solicited, discussed in detail and transferred to a specification sheet, which was explained in detail to the machine manufacturer.

The result

The solution was found in an individually engineered labelling system, which is able to scan the surface of the containers via special sensors and to determine the exact time for applying the label. This enables uniform and precise labelling without height differences on all containers of different sizes. Accordingly, this technical solution is characterised by the combination of performance and flexibility. An added value that we can now offer to all our customers for a more successful presentation of their products on the market.

The challenge

One of the leading mechanical engineering companies in the field of hydraulic and filter systems wanted to offer a premium hydraulic oil for its aftersales business on the European market, analogous to the US market. The difficulties lay in the oil filtering and filling into the selected packaging as well as its design with regard to the lack of distribution in the customer’s branches within Europe.

Our approach

We, therefore, first procured the unfiltered premium hydraulic oil via a long-standing European business partner and filtered it on site using a filter system specially manufactured and provided by the customer. As a result of the make-or-buy analysis, the customer then decided not only to filter the product at Caramba, but also to fill it at our premises and to define and procure all packaging materials. The next step was, therefore, to install a filling machine tailored to the customer’s filter machine and dedicated exclusively to oil filling so that the unfiltered oil could be pumped through the filter system using the single-pass principle. During this process, an integrated particle counter checked the filtered liquid for defined impurities according to ISO 17/15/12 as well as for the water content of less than 0.03% guaranteed by Caramba, thus ensuring quality control during filtration.

The result

With Caramba as a strategic partner in Europe, the customer was able to establish its successful aftersales business, which is known from the US, on the growing European market as well. Outsourcing the production and distribution of the specific aftersales product for the European market to Caramba allowed the customer to focus on its core competencies in this segment.

The challenge

A car manufacturer based in Germany intended to market its complete car care range in the US. The specific prerequisite was compliance with the legal regulations of all US states. The challenge was to identify a partner that was proficient in the private branding business in the US and who could handle the distribution and warehousing of the car care products for the US, Canada and Mexico. Mandatory requirements were therefore TS-16949 Quality Management Certification, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 certification and an interest in a long-term and strategic partnership.

Our approach

The desired partner was to handle distribution and storage as well as registration and labelling of the products in the US. Caramba, therefore, looked specifically for a private branding manufacturer for car care products in the US and arranged meetings with several manufacturers for this purpose – with the goal of finding the optimum partner for the project. In the course of this search process, EXCELDA emerged as a suitable partner. EXCELDA is one of the most successful US manufacturers of chemical products in the private label sector. The company already has all the required quality management certifications (TS 16949, ISO 14001, ISO 9001) and is very familiar with car care product ranges and the required toxicological standards and regulations.
